Yap Audio to Text is a free browser tool that turns audio and video files into editable text and subtitles. Drop in an MP3, M4A, WAV or video file and get a transcript you can edit, copy or save as .txt, plus SRT or VTT subtitle files with real start and end times. The file is cut at natural pauses so each subtitle lines up with the speech. OpenAI's Whisper model runs inside your browser, so the file is never uploaded to a server. Files up to 60 minutes and 300 MB. Choose English mode, or Any language mode for 99 languages with automatic detection (the speech is never translated). The model downloads once and is cached by the browser. No sign-up and no minute limits. Works best in desktop Chrome or Edge. Made by the team behind the Yap dictation app.
