Camera gear inventory, now with a native macOS app

GearDex is a camera gear inventory for photographers, videographers, and studios, available on the web and as a native macOS app (download at geardex.app/download). It gives you one reliable record of what you own, what it is worth, and where it is. Each item in the gear library can hold its brand and model, serial number, mount, photos, purchase date and price, current market value, condition, storage location, and notes. The library has dedicated sections for cameras, lenses, accessories, filters, and drones, and drone records include FAA registration and Remote ID fields. Getting an existing list into GearDex takes little effort. Smart Add reads a plain sentence or a photo and turns it into gear records for you to review. CSV import uses templates for each gear type and checks every row before saving. Every plan can export a full account backup as ZIP, JSON, or CSV. What's new in GearDex 3.5 (released September 5, 2026): free My Kit Snapshots, which turn up to 12 items into a shareable image, and free Record Readiness, which shows which items are missing details such as a photo, serial number, or receipt. Pro and Studio add a Unified Timeline for shoot day and Iris Prep Review, where the built-in assistant reviews a shoot plan for gear conflicts and missing essentials. Studio adds an Availability Board. On Pro, GearDex attaches receipts, warranty cards, manuals, and insurance policies to the items they belong to and sends alerts before a warranty expires. Reports show value trends, breakdowns by category and brand, and insurance coverage, with a one-click insurance PDF. The rig builder groups bodies, lenses, and accessories, totals weight and value, and prints QR labels that open the item's page when scanned. Shoot planning covers locations, call sheets and crew contacts, moodboards, checklists, weather, and sun, moon, and tide times. Pro adds a shot list workspace, packing manifests, a production readiness check, and PDF export. Iris answers questions about your own kit, checks lens-to-camera mount compatibility, and drafts shot lists and gear descriptions. It suggests changes but does not edit anything without your approval. Showcases publish selected gear as a public page with retailer links. Pro adds resale listings formatted for eBay, Facebook, and Reddit. The Studio plan adds loan tracking, maintenance scheduling, the availability board, team workspaces with permissions, and an API with webhooks and an MCP adapter. Platforms: modern browsers on phones, tablets, and computers, plus a native app for Apple Silicon and Intel Macs running macOS 13 or later. There is no iOS app. Pricing: Starter is free for up to 25 items. Pro is $39 per year and Studio is $179 per year. GearDex is an independent product founded in 2025 in Irvine, California by maker Dylan Andersen. It is built with Next.js, React, and TypeScript, with help from AI coding tools (Cursor).
